Sunday - Arriving at Madrid's International Airport you will be met and transferred by private car to your Madrid hotel. Check in and spend the remainder of the day exploring this city on your own.
Monday - This morning you'll enjoy breakfast at your hotel before you discover the beauties of the city with a guided city tour. Barrio de la Morería, the Hapsburgs District, Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor and Plaza de la Villa; the Madrid of the Bourbons and the complex town planning schemes of Charles III, the Royal Palace, Cibeles and Neptuno Fountains and the Puerta de Alcalá. Continue to the contemporary Madrid with areas such as Gran Vía, Castellana, the district of Salamanca, Plaza Castilla, and Parque del Oeste, as well as commercial and financial areas of Modern Madrid, the emblematic Las Ventas Bullring and the Santiago Bernabéu Football Stadium. The afternoon is at your leisure to continue exploring the wonders that this city has to offer. Then, in the evening, join your fellow travellers for an authentic Welcome Tapas Dinner at a local restaurant. (B.D)
Tuesday - After breakfast at your hotel, board the coach for the journey to Portugal, with a stop in Salamanca along the way. Enjoy some free time in this University City and World Heritage Site of great architectural and artistic wealth. Continue to the Portuguese border to reach Porto. Located along the Douro River estuary in northern Portugal, Porto is one of the oldest European towns and was proclaimed a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1996, and your home for the next two nights. Wednesday - As always, breakfast will be held at the hotel before you set off on a guided sightseeing tour of Porto. After admiring the Cathedral, the Stock Exchange building, and Santa Clara church, enjoy a Douro River Cruise and discover famous Port Wine Cellars with a wine-tasting experience included. The remainder of your day is free to pass as you choose. (B)
Thursday - This morning you'll depart to Coimbra, home to one of the oldest universities in Europe and the birthplace of Fado. You'll have some free time to explore Coimbra on your own. Our journey continues to Fatima, a center of the Christian Faith and World Pilgrimage Site where you can admire the impressive Basilica and the Cova da Iria place where the Virgin Mary appeared, the Chapel of the Apparitions - the heart of the sanctuary - with the tombs of the three shepherds, Lucia, Francisco & Jacinta. And at night you'll have the possibility to attend the procession of the candles. (B)
Friday - Breakfast at the hotel followed by a departure to the Batalha Monastery, a masterpiece of Gothic and Manueline style considered a World Heritage place by UNESCO. Next, we travel toward the fishing town of Nazaré. After some free time in this picturesque village, our drive continues to Alcobaça, a World Heritage site renowned for its Gothic church and Cistercian monastery, whose origins date back to the XII C. Finally, we proceed to Lisbon for check-in and overnight accommodation. (B)
Saturday - After breakfast, enjoy a morning city sightseeing of the ancient Olissipo. Drive through its main squares and avenues, Belem Tower, Jeronimos Monastery, Coach Museum, Monument to the Discoverers, Marquis of Pombal Square & Liberty Avenue. The afternoon is at leisure for you to explore the nostalgic corners of the Alfama Quarter, the old city gathered next to its Castle, with old buildings nested along narrow, winding “Ruas” (streets) full of colour housing the genuine “tavernas". In the evening, rejoin your fellow travellers and enjoy a typical Portuguese dinner & Fado show at one of Lisbon's oldest Fado venues. (B.D)
Sunday - Departing Lisbon this morning, we cross the border back into Spain and travel toward Caceres. Caceres is considered a World Heritage site due to the city’s blend of Roman, Islamic, Northern Gothic, and Italian Renaissance architecture. Take some time to walk through its Plaza Mayor and the Old Town with its famous Medieval Quarter. Then, sit back and relax as we drive back to Madrid. Evening at leisure and overnight accommodation. Monday - Today, after breakfast you tour comes to an end. At a time to suit your departing flight, you will be transferred to the airport to begin your journey home. (B) Adios!
