Glasgow | Loch Ness, Glencoe & the Highlands

exc_image

Today depart Glasgow and travel towards the Highlands along the “bonnie, bonnie” banks of Loch Lomond. You'll journey along the banks of Loch Lomond and cross the ancient natural fault line that runs across Scotland to venture into the majestic Highlands with their shimmering lochs, rugged mountains, and forest-filled glens. The alluring beauty makes it easy to forget this was once a battleground of the fiercely territorial Highland clans. Travelling north through Breadalbane, you climb towards Rannoch Moor. This 1000ft plain is covered by heather, peat bogs, and dozens of lochs. Then head down to Scotland's most famous valley and the scene of the clan massacre of the MacDonalds by the Campbells in 1692 - Glencoe, where you’ll be mesmerized by the beautiful cliff faces and steep slopes. Next, you'll enter a deep glacial valley known as the Great Glen, pass through the town of Fort William, and travel under Britain's highest mountain - the Ben Nevis, before arriving at Fort Augustus on the shore of famous Loch Ness. Here we stop for one hour to give you time for lunch and in the afternoon, you can enjoy a five-star Loch Ness boat cruise (weather dependent) for a chance to spot the monster and admire the beauty of this mysterious loch. We then begin our return journey, making several photo stops along the way including the quaint town of Pitlochry. Finally, we continue south through the forests of Perthshire before reaching Glasgow in the evening. For a more personal experience, this tour is taken in the comfort of a 16-seat Mercedes mini coach.
