READ MORE...Our first stop on todays' small-group tour will be in Les Baux de Provence in the Alpilles region where you'll have free time to discover this exceptional medieval village with its narrow streets and imposing castle ruin, and which still maintains the memory of the proud lords & troubadours of times past. From the rocky spur, a breathtaking view of exceptional scenery amazes visitors. Next, we stop at Pont du Gard, a fascinating Unesco World Heritage site, today the best-preserved part of the aqueduct of Nîmes (which is almost 50 km long). The Roman architects and hydraulic engineers who designed this bridge, which stands almost 50m high and is on three levels, created a technical as well as an artistic masterpiece. Continue to Avignon, the city of the Popes during the 14th-century, where you'll admire the medieval walls, the Saint Bénezet bridge also called "Pont d’Avignon" on the Rhône river, and the Popes’ Palace, the biggest Gothic palace in all Europe (entrance fees not included). The day will go on with a visit to Châteauneuf du Pape, surrounded by the vineyards that produce the grapes for the famous wine. A wine tasting in one of the numerous wine cellars is included, before the return drive to Aix-en-Provence. Free time for lunch on your own during the tour. Duration 9.5 hours approx.
