My clients are back from the Jolly Sicily Tour, here their feedback...Our trip went very, very well. We enjoyed it very much, had a superb time. The itinerary was perfect, but the people who implemented & managed it were even better. Driver & guides were all professionals & worthy of saying thanks for a well done job. We saw & learned a lot. Thanks from the bottom of my heart for a job well done!

From lavish Versailles and the elegant avenues & illuminated monuments of Paris to picturesque medieval walled towns with its narrow cobblestone lanes & candy coloured houses. From the übercool bars and tavern of Paris' historic Bastille neighbourhood and the colourful markets in Strasbourg to the quaint wineries and traditional "Winstub" of the Alsatian wine route, this 8-day Wine & Gourmet tour of France is sure to entice all your senses!

Day 1: Paris

Welcome to Paris! Now that you have arrived you’ll meet your driver who will bring you comfortably to your hotel in central Paris. Take some time to relax before this evening’s excursion when you will discover the majesty of the "City of Lights" during a panoramic evening city tour plus a Seine river cruise. Passing under the famous Seine bridges, during the hour-long cruise you'll admire the finest Paris monuments from a different angle. Then round off your discovery of Paris with a guided panoramic tour showcasing the city's main avenues and beautifully illuminated historic buildings including Concorde Square, Opera House, Madeleine, Notre Dame Cathedral, Champs Élysées, the Arc de Triumph and many more. During Summer, while waiting for night to fall, part of the tour takes place in the daylight.

Day 2: Paris - Versailles

Early morning pick up from your hotel to discover the lavish estate of Versailles. Travelling by deluxe mini-van, our guide will tell you about the history of this famous palace, a UNESCO World Heritage site, while en route. You will then tour the splendid State Apartments including the Hall of Mirrors, the King and Queen’s bedrooms with an audio guide (provided in multiple languages) and afterwards your guide will go with you to admire the gorgeous gardens designed by Le Nôtre. The afternoon today is free to stroll the streets of Paris on your own. (B)

Day 3: Paris - French Tastes

The morning is at your leisure to enjoy Paris as you choose. Then in the afternoon, set out on a guided food & wine walking tour through the Paris' Bastille neighbourhood. Bastille was once the heart of working-class Paris where most revolutions started from. Today, the area is a young and hip gentrified hub where you’ll find some of the most famous bars, clubs & restaurants in Paris! You’ll learn about Paris through its bars and taverns as you sample local wines and beers and discover the history of Paris in the lesser known but übercool areas of Bastille and Aligre. Start your tour at Place de la Bastille, on the steps of the architecturally modern opera. You'll hear about the long-rooted tradition of revolution in the hood and walk into the emblematic small lanes of Bastille, once the place where craftsmen where working but today home to cafés, bars and clubs open until the wee hours. Our first stop will be in one of the most famous bistros in Paris where we will have our first glass of wine paired with the most known French speciality: snails! Walking through amazing private passages for a real travel back in time, we reach one of Paris’ most famous wine bar. This classic “bar à vin” hosts a joyful mix of locals, expats and tourists who all share the same love for the grape nectar. Here you will taste some wine before heading to the neighbouring market, marché d’Aligre, one of the oldest covered market in Paris. After a short visit of all the great products France has to offer, we will stop at a cheese stall and pick up some delicious and smelly "fromages" to taste in a neighbouring beer bar. Yes, beer bar! Why not changing the traditional cheese and wine pairing with beer! Craft beer is becoming big in France too. We will sample some delicious French and Belgium craft beer before making our way back to the tour starting point. (B)

Day 4: Paris | Strasbourg

Today you’ll travel by high-speed train from Paris to Strasbourg, a journey of less than 2 hours and you will be met on arrival at the railway station by your private driver and transferred to your centrally located hotel. After checking in, you are free to start exploring Strasbourg on your own. (B)

Day 5: Strasbourg - Food & Wine

Today you can sample the Flavors of Strasbourg on Market Day. Discover the city of Strasbourg in a fun & informative way as you taste some of the best gastronomic produce of Alsace. Cuisine and gourmet food are passions for most French people and the region has many specialities combining its unique French & Germanic cultural heritage - a very special flavour. From lovely fresh white asparagus, local Foie-Gras, juniper-flavoured sauerkraut, pies made from local berries, smocked mountain hams, colourful Quetsche plums, breads of all shapes, to delicious cakes & pastries, Alsace produce are known all over France. Today is market day in Strasbourg. Stroll through the pedestrian narrow lanes of the historical city centre and reach the market. Follow your guide as you are introduced to some of the local food as well as traditional Arts & Crafts. Along the way, we will have you sample local food such as cured meat & cheese paired with local wines. Other stops will include tasting some traditional bread and Pretzels as well as Pain d’épices – our very own Gingerbread. This gourmet tour would not be complete without several tastings of delicious wines that might even include Crémant d’Alsace, a delicious local sparkling wine!
In the afternoon depart for a half-day tour along the Alsace wine route to discover some of the most fascinating wines of France. Alsace is renowned for its aromatic white wines and during this half-day tour, you will visit 2 wineries to find out all there is to know about the 7 different types of Alsace wines. First, we depart for the lovely town of Obernai located on the ‘Wine Route’ where you will most certainly appreciate its little winding streets, old houses with multicoloured tiles, ramparts and the statue of St Odile patron saint of Alsace. After a guided walking tour of the town, enjoy your first wine tasting session in one of our selected wineries. Your tour will then continue along the breathtaking Alsace wine route to admire the stunning landscape with a stop a typical Alsace 'caveau' for our second wine tasting. A 6 pm return to Strasbourg is planned and the evening is at leisure. (B)

Day 6: Strasbourg - Pearls of the Alsace

Beautiful Towns, villages and Amazing Landscapes – What a Combination! This morning depart for the beautiful town of Colmar. Discover the charm of the old town, its prestigious monuments, the Pfister house, the Koïfhus, Saint-Martin collegiate church, and the picturesque neighbourhoods of "Small Venice" or of "The Tanners".  Then depart to the most beautiful village of Eguisheim. Surrounded by vineyards, the narrow & concentric streets highlight the architectural merits of its half-timbered houses lovingly decorated with flowers. After a walk in the village, your tour continues on to the lovely town of Riquewihr. Surrounded by ramparts, this charming village has been very fortunate to survive war and destruction. Its tiny streets, fortified walls and old houses have preserved their 16th-century splendour virtually intact, making for remarkable architectural harmony. Here you will have free time for lunch. Following lunch, enjoy the spectacular Alsace ‘Wine Route’. The itinerary leads across rows of vine-covered hills and through quaint villages with narrow streets. And now, end the day with a guided tour of an amazing castle - the mighty Haut Koenigsbourg Castle overlooking the valley! Built in the 12th-century, the castle occupied a strategic position controlling the wine and wheat routes to the North and the salt route that came from the East. After a busy day return to Strasbourg arriving around 6 pm. This evening, enjoy a fabulous regional dinner in one of the most traditional restaurants of Strasbourg - known as a Winstub: literally “wine lounge”. (B.D)
