Day 1: Rome
Friday - On arrival at Rome airport you will be transferred to your hotel. Check in and remainder of the day at leisure to start exploring the Eternal City on your own.
Day 2: Rome
Saturday - Breakfast at hotel. In the morning enjoy a guided walking tour to discover some of Rome's most famous sites. Starting from Largo Argentina, your English speaking guide will lead you to Campo de’ Fiori, Piazza Farnese and Piazza Navona, past the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain and the famous Spanish steps, ending in the very centre of the city. The afternoon is free to spend as you please. Overnight accommodation in Rome. (B)
Day 3: Rome | Montepulciano | Pienza | Siena
Sunday - Early in the morning meet your multilingual tour escort at the hotel and departure by coach for a delightful trip through the rolling hills of the Chianti Region. Will reach the hilltop town of Montepulciano, an ancient village full of medieval and Renaissance buildings and famous for one of the oldest wines of Italy, the “Nobile di Montepulciano". Stop for a visit to a wine cellar in a typical and suggestive atmosphere, tasting wines and some local products like ham, cheese & salami. Proceed to Pienza, the Renaissance “ideal town” built by Pope Pius II and well-known for its Pecorino cheese. The tour then proceeds to Siena, where you will enjoy a visit of the old city centre, walking along the medieval streets to admire the splendid palaces and spectacular cathedral. The guided tour ends on the Piazza del Campo, one of the most beautiful sites in the world famous for the 600- year-old Palio horse-race. Check-in at hotel in Siena for dinner and overnight accommodation. (B.D)
Day 4: Siena | San Gimignano | Chianti Region | Pisa | La Spezia
Monday - After breakfast at the hotel, departure toward San Gimignano, a tiny city that has remained intact through the centuries. Situated on a hilltop it is famous for its numerous towers, frescoes and other art treasures. You will then proceed to Tavernelle Val di Pesa located within the Chiantin Classico “Gallo Nero” region, where we will make a stop at the farmhouse La Tancia to enjoy a tasting of its excellent wines & light lunch. The tour continues onto Pisa, where you will have free time. Early afternoon our expert tour leader will take you for a pleasant walk into the enchanting historical centre, Piazza dei Miracoli, with its famous Leaning Tower (exterior visit), The Baptistery (exterior visit) and other beautiful monuments. We then journey on toward the Italian Riviera and the coastal town of La Spezia. Dinner and overnight accommodation. (B.D)
Day 5: La Spezia | Portovenere | Cinque Terre | La Spezia
Tuesday - After breakfast, departure by boat for an unforgettable day dedicated to the discovery of one of the most amazing and enchanting landscapes in the World. Five unique villages, “Cinque Terre”, suspended between sea & land, and hanging from sheer cliffs surrounded by hills & vineyards, will allow us to immerse into a little piece of Heaven. You will have the possibility to admire this amazing landscape from the seaside* like in a postcard: Portovenere, Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso. You will be able to stop at Portovenere, Vernazza and Monterosso with time to visit these lovely towns at leisure. Then board the train in Monterosso and return to La Spezia for dinner & overnight at the hotel. (B.D) *In the event of rough seas, the visit will be done partially by coach & partially by train.
Day 6: La Spezia | Carrara Marble Caves | Montecarlo di Lucca | Rome
Wednesday - After breakfast morning departure to Carrara for a panoramic tour of the impressive Marble quarries carved deep into the mountain, where Michelangelo took the raw material to create his superb masterpieces. Visit the quarry museum you will admire ancient tools, some sculptures and the quarryman’s house. Continue to Montecarlo di Lucca, a lovely town located on the hills around Lucca. This territory is ideal for the production of top quality wine and extra virgin olive oil. We will stop and visit a farmhouse where the owners will have you taste delicious Tuscan food specialities, from olive oil to cheese, from bread to wine and of course pasta, which you will taste with different wines. Then it is back to Rome, where we arrive in the evening. (B)
Day 7: Rome
Thursday - Today marks the end of your tour. Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before making your way to the airport to start your journey back home. An optional departure transfer is available on request. (B)
