The cosmopolitan capital of Spain’s Catalonia region is known for its art and architecture. The fantastical Sagrada Família church and other modernist landmarks designed by Antoni Gaudí dot the city. But that's not all - take our Gourmet City Break to discover the 'tasty' side of Barcelona

Day 1: Barcelona

Bienvenido a España!   On arrival in Barcelona, you will find your driver waiting for you in the arrivals area and ready to bring you in comfort to your hotel for check-in. The remainder of today is at leisure to relax or start exploring Catalonia's capital city on your own. From famous architecture & monuments to traditional eateries, excellent shopping opportunities and sprawling parks, Barcelona has much to be discovered.

Day 2: Montserrat, Torres Wine Cellars & Sitges

Start your half-day trip from Barcelona in a comfortable coach ride towards the mountain of Montserrat. Montserrat is a rocky mountain located 50 km to the southwest of Barcelona and is considered the most significant and important mountain of Catalonia. The etymology of Montserrat comes from Catalan Mont (mountain) and serrat (serrated). The mountain receives its name for its peculiar morphology. In 1987 Montserrat was declared a Natural Park to ensure its conservation. The highest peak is called Sant Jeroni (Saint Jerome) and stands at 1,236 meters above sea level. The importance of this mountain is due to the legend of the miraculous appearance of the Madonna and Child in one of the caves. This cave received the name Santa Cova (The Saint Cave). To this day the wood carving of the Madonna and Child are kept in the Church of the monastery and it is possible to visit it. This image of the Madonna is popularly known as La Moreneta (The Black Madonna) for its dark colour which is the result of a reaction caused by varnish. La Moreneta´s holiday is on April 27th. Due to the legend of the Madonna, the mountain has been linked with spirituality.  Besides the main monastery of Santa María de Montserrat, there is a great number of small churches and chapels, some of them abandoned. The main monastery stands at 720 metres above sea level. Nowadays there is a community of 80 monks that live there and follow the rule of Saint Benedict. During the first part of today's tour, your guide will give you an introduction to the history of the monastery and the mountain. Once the guided tour has ended, you will have free time to enjoy the fabulous landscape by yourself, to visit the local food market, to visit de audiovisual exhibition and to taste some typical liqueurs.  After this visit, you will meet your guide at the bus stop to depart to the prestigious wineries of the Torres family in the heart of Penedés, where you will discover and experience all the secrets about the fascinating world of wine. This visit starts with a commented tasting of two wines and an Iberian ham tapa. Later, people who have chosen the gastronomic lunch option will enjoy a high-quality local products menu paired with wines. The rest of the group will have some free time to enjoy the vineyards and the landscape or maybe go to the restaurant to drink or eat something. Afterwards, all of the group will visit the vineyards and the winery, where we will see the new space where the iconic wine of the family is made: Mas La Plana. In addition, the visitor has the opportunity to access the Waltraud winery and the area used for the maturation of the most emblematic Torres wines.
Later we will be driven to Sitges, one of the most beautiful villages of the Catalonia coast. This sailor village is one of the favourite destinations of the tourists that visit Catalonia, due to its picturesque old town centre with narrow streets, beautiful beaches, a vibrant cultural live, good food, nice and unique shops. You will visit its streets with our guide who will explain the historic details about the “Indianos”, the people who went to America in search of a better life. After the guided tour you will be free to continue discovering the corners of the city, its magnificent beaches or go shopping in the old town. At the end of the day, you'll return to Barcelona. An optional lunch is available today. (B)

Day 3: Barcelona Food Walking Tour

After a full day to enjoy the city as you choose, this evening you can combine gourmet food and Catalan culture on a pre-dinner walking tour of Barcelona's famous tapas bars. Besides, your friendly informative guide can offer suggestions to help you get the most from your stay in Barcelona.  You will be welcomed to the tour with a glass of wine in a Gastronomic Center created under the slow food philosophy and open to offer experiences to Foodies and travellers who visit Barcelona. Your food specialist guide will lead you through Barcelona's most famous street, La Rambla. From here you will go to La Boqueria, the city’s famous food market, which offers an array of fresh products including fruits and vegetables, seafood, cheese and any type of meat you can imagine and you will taste some of the traditional products in the market. You'll continue through the Gothic Quarter, where you will discover the architecture, atmosphere, language and gastronomy that are unique to Spain, and some of the gourmet shops which are over 100 years old.
